We are what we consume.

We are what we consume.

What we consume on a day to day basis derives from what we have consumed before. Every decision we make in our lives is linked with one another, however frivolous the decision we made in the past, it will have its fair share of impact on the decision we will make in the present and possibly in the future. To cut it briefly, what we consume does matter a whole lot to what we are today and what we will be tomorrow.

Which brings me back to the idea of simplicity, if an idea is presented as simple and nothing else behind it. Then people should be skeptical about consuming the idea. As human beings we are made of different layers, a single emotion in our lives can leave us empty and soulless. Take something as tears rolling down our cheeks, the visuals image of tears rolling down will impact people but it will cause a huge devastation, if people learned all the things that caused that person to cry. People tend to focus on what they see and sidetrack every other possibilities. A single piece of news, however easy it may sound, does have a lot of value. Some of the value will not come with a single viewing of the news, it has layers. Nowadays, it is easy to break any event down to a few paragraphs or a few minute video.

The price we pay for these ways of conveying a story is expensive. As people are reluctant to read more, or watch extensive videos to get to know both sides. The rise of information has led to the creation of a quick way to bring the news to people while at the same time without paying any attention to the grievance of the people going through the pain.

Something harrowing as a mother seeing her own child dying in her arms will get treated as another page of sad news. A minute long video will describe all the facts and then move on to the other story where the same wheel turns for another round. An emotion of any kind is hard to describe, let alone breaking it down in a minute long video.

A complete disregard to what just happened, an event that holds no value to the world, but it shatters the world of few people in it. A quick run down on any news, leaves only information, kills any soul from it. The only thing the audience gets are facts.

Hundred stories focusing on tragic events or a hundred minute cover up for one person suffering. Which one of them will teach people to be more empathetic towards others? Again - we are what we consume.
