Love is indeed strange

They came and asked us to give them some shelter, and we built them a palace.

Then they asked us for hope, and we surrounded ourselves to make them happy.

They wanted food, and we pierced the skin of the finest animal to please their appetite.

They wanted to walk, and we laid our bodies on the line so they could.

They wanted to hear a
song, we sang a song of joy masquerading the pain.

They wanted warmth in winter, and we burned our flesh so they couldn't feel cold.

They wanted to see a dance, and we danced with a broken leg.

They wanted to feel laughter, and we hit our heads with a bitter pie.

They wanted a happy life, and we gave them ours.

Love is indeed strange.
